Frank Sojonky Memorial Bursary in Alternative Energy Technology

Born in Regina to hardworking Ukrainian immigrants, entrepreneur Frank Sojonky (1928-2012) grew up in humble circumstances during the Depression and war years. Through hard work, diligence, and drive, he was the first person in his family to graduate from university. Thereafter began a successful, 60-year career spanning many fields (from restaurants to real estate development) in Western Canada and beyond. He supported and fundraised for numerous charities, especially animal welfare and prostate cancer research, for which he raised millions of dollars. Through the ups and downs of business and his 23-year-fight against cancer, he maintained a remarkable attitude of optimism, innovation, and focus, and an unwavering belief in the power of an individual to make a positive contribution to the world. Together, he and Carla built an active, busy family of seven rescued German Shorthaired Pointers. This bursary is endowed in Frank’s honor by his beloved wife, Carla Cumming Sojonky.
