Indigenous Careers Award

The Indigenous Careers Award is funded by the Government of Alberta and is intended to encourage Indigenous peoples (First Nations, Metis and Inuit) living in Alberta to pursue and complete post-secondary studies in certificate, diploma, applied degree and bachelor’s degree programs.

Available to NAIT students who are:
-Status Indian/First Nations, Non-Status Indian/First Nations, Metis, or Inuit and are able to provide a copy of proof of Indigenous ancestry (see below)
-Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents, or Protected Persons of Canada
-Alberta residents
-Enrolled in the Fall semester in a certificate, diploma, applied degree, or bachelor’s degree program in at least 60% of a full course load (40% if you are a student with a documented, permanent disability)
-Achieving satisfactory academic standing

Selection will be based on demonstrated financial need.

Acceptable proof of identity may include:
1.) Certificate of Indian Status, a status card or a membership card
2.) Letter from their band verifying their status
3.) Membership card issued by a Metis organization the student is registered with (Metis organization must be a legal entity)
4.) A certified copy of a Nunavut Trust Certificate card or Inuit beneficiary card
5.) Letter of support from Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada or Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated
6.) A letter of support from a First Nation, Metis or Inuit organization (must be a legal entity) confirming the applicant’s indigenous ancestry

Students must submit an application to be considered for this award.
