GEARS Scholarship Foundation - Charles Hare Pioneer Bursary

Charles Hare graduated from NAIT’s Mechanical-Industrial Engineering Technology program and became an
ASET member in 1978. Shortly after joining, he took on leadership roles as Chair of the Red Deer Chapter
and later served on ASET Council as Director, 2nd Vice President, and 1st Vice President. He went on to
serve two terms as ASET President in 1987–88. His commitment to advancing the profession extended
nationally through his work with the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists, where he served as
President in 1997. During his ASET presidency in 1988, Charles played a pivotal role in establishing the
Engineering Technology Scholarship Foundation of Alberta (ETSFA), later renamed the ASET Foundation.
He remained an active contributor to the Foundation for decades, stepping down from the board in 2024 while

Engineering Technology, Engineering Design and Drafting Technology, Surveying and Geospatial
Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Landscape Architectural Technology,
Mechanical Engineering Technology, Petroleum Engineering Technology, Power Engineering Technology,
and Water and Wastewater Technician. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and satisfactory
academic achievement.
