The Arnold and Grace Rumbold Leadership Award

Arnold and Grace have been steadfast champions of NAIT and its students for many years. Their commitment to education is reflected through their generous support of student awards, including the Arnold and Grace Leadership Awards. Through their philanthropy, they have demonstrated a deep passion for creating opportunities for underrepresented groups and helping students build meaningful careers. The Arnold and Grace Leadership Awards embody their belief in the transformative power of a polytechnic education and the positive impact NAIT students have in their communities

Available to full-time students enrolled in any year or period of a degree, diploma, certificate, or apprentice program who maintain satisfactory academic standing.

Students will be evaluated on:

  • Community Impact – demonstrated volunteerism, service, or leadership that has made a meaningful difference on campus or in the broader community.
  • Applied Contribution – evidence of using practical, hands-on skills to solve problems, support others or improve community initiatives.
  • Leadership & Citizenship – showing initiative, collaboration, and responsibility in ways that inspire peers and strengthen community culture.

Students enrolled in a co-op program are eligible. However, activities completed as part of a co-op or other Work Integrated Learning experiences (e.g., clinical, field, or professional practice placements) will not be considered in the evaluation.
Students may only receive the award once.

Students must submit an application and a letter of recommendation to be considered for this award.

Supplemental Questions
  1. Provide a personal statement (up to 750 words) that highlights: a) volunteer activities and public service initiatives that demonstrate selflessness and a commitment to making your community(ies) a better place; b) leadership and entrepreneurial thinking that address challenges, create opportunities, or inspire others; and c) your contributions on campus or in the broader community, consider both the breadth (diversity and scope of your efforts) and the impact (tangible, lasting change) of your actions. Your statement should include specific examples, measurable outcomes where possible, and reflect on what these experiences have taught you about citizenship and leadership.
  2. Provide the name and contact information for an individual who is personally familiar with you and can provide you with a reference for this leadership award. Remember it is your responsibility to advise the referee of the criteria for this award.
