Ooks Hockey Alumni Association Scholarships - Fall
Recognizing both athletic and academic achievement, the Ooks Hockey Alumni Association Scholarships were created in 2003 to honor current Men’s Hockey players who exemplify the below attributes to their teammates. A minimum academic requirement of 1.7 (60%) in the case of extenuating circumstances, with a preference of at least 2.0 (63%) under normal circumstances is expected be achieved in the previous semester. Approximately 30 scholarships will be disbursed in two increments: one in February and one in May upon maintaining academic standing.
The Recipients are choses based on the following criteria:
A – “ATTITUDE”
A player’s attitude both on and off the ice. Positive attitude towards your teammates, coaches, school, program, and life in general.
L – “LIKEABILITY”
A player’s likeability by the coaches, teammates, classmates and the Alumni. Generally a good person.
U – “UNDERRATED”
A player that may not have the most goals, assists and points at the end of the season. May not be the flashiest player on the team. However, a player that contributes just as much if not more to the benefit of the team based on his reputation and demeanor.
M – “MOTIVATION TOWARD SCHOOL”
A player that demonstrates a good work ethic towards excelling in the classroom.
N – “NAIT FOR LIFE”
A player who is not only committed to the current team and the school, but who will one day be committed to “Giving Back” with a lifetime membership to the Ooks Hockey Alumni Association and contributing to the community. Award recipients are expected to be involved in the community through volunteerism.
I – “INSPIRATION”
A player that has become an inspiration to everyone around him – through his attitude, likeability, underrated ability, work ethic in school, and his commitment to putting the team first.
Students will automatically be considered for this award. No application required.
